A private estate
Set in the heart of a private estate, surrounded by woods and fields. No through traffic, no noise: just birdsong and the crackle of the fire. Children can play here in complete safety.
Shops close by
The centre of Mettet and its shops are a few minutes away, without giving up the peace of the estate.
Private parking
Right next to the house, so unloading the luggage is easy.
And even padel
The Padel Mettet club is 1 km away.
Just like home, only quieter
The large 33 m² living room brings the lounge and dining area together around the wood stove, while geothermal underfloor heating spreads a gentle, eco-friendly warmth throughout the house. French windows open onto the terrace and garden, where you can spend long hours outdoors.
Upstairs are two bedrooms with two beds each and a small sitting area on the mezzanine with a sofa bed for two. Two bathrooms and two separate toilets, one on each floor: even with six, nobody has to wait.
A former marble works from the late 19th century
The gîte is part of a site steeped in history: the marble works founded in the late 19th century by Hector Stocq (1855-1936), whose business helped the whole region to flourish.
Activity was so intense that the site had its own railway line.
The gîte is none other than the factory’s old forge, which gives it its name. From the forge you enjoy a splendid, unobstructed view of the old works where the marble was cut and finished after quarrying.
Jean-Yves, a direct descendant of Hector Stocq, and Marie-Pâques will be happy to show you around the site on a short walk. With period photographs in hand, Jean-Yves will tell you about the workers’ lives and the craft of marble, that most noble of materials.
